DESCRIPTION: Body length up to 9.5mm. A hard-looking weevil with a chunky appearance.  The head and thorax are black but covered with creamy-yellow markings. The rostrum has a central groove only. The light brown elytra have a slight mottling of paler blotches and also have a sparse covering of short, semi-erect hairs at all intervals. There are no angles at the rear of each wing-case.BEHAVIOUR: A slow moving beetle that tends to remain tucked away in herbage or beneath suitable shelter. DISTRIBUTION: Widely distributed in England and Wales.  Becoming scarcer in the north of the UK. HABITAT: One of the few ground dwelling weevils that can be found within deep grasses, under logs and stones or actually on low vegetation. PERIOD: Can be spotted all year round.
